Student Testimony

Adrian Lim - People's Park Baptist Church

RPBC was initially not known to me; not until I decided that I am in real need to know His Word more. Being a Christian for many years now, the desire to dwell deeper into His Word has been there probably the appropriate word to describe it would be 'procrastination'! Soon after getting info from a couple of bible schools, was somehow prompted to join RPBC that was sometime back in end of December 02. What prompted me could be the colorful brochure? Nevertheless, I believe it was a divine appointment!

I started off wanting to improve my shallow thinking of the Old Testament. Been the normal Christian of always going for the New Testament, it was time to dive into God's exceeding riches in the OT. Of course I started off without much knowledge and was thoroughly humbled when I didn't even know the obvious in His Word! It has been a year now and for the most of the topics, I have been focusing on the OT taught by Sister Melinda. Through these series of studies, I had to unlearn wrong doctrines, learnt over the years through sermons, testimonies and other means. It was a mesh of this and that and without proper training and teaching of His Word; it made me more or less a weak Christian. Unlearning isn't an easy task and I would say that I am still in the process and I thank Him for that. But the beauty of it was that He provides the grace, strength to carry through now that I get to know Him better through His Word.

To say the least it has changed my life, a paradigm shift! I felt it was really time I get deeper and to know Him better. Stories about King David, Moses and others depicting such close relationship between God and man- I wanted to know how and I found out that it was going to be through God Words to man. BIBLE - some one shared that it stands for Believers Instructions Before Leaving Earth. How appropriate!

Besides the Bible Study aspect of it, God challenged me in different areas, even as simple as my every ride from PJ to FGA! Sometimes it was about patience when I have to drive through the infamous Old Klang Road chaos. Perseverance would be the other, getting there on time and even when I don't feel like going after a hard day at work. Discipline, to read up and digest was has been thought. To keep the long story short, He has been giving me direct theory (through Sister Melinda's) and practical training (the moment I step into my surroundings), prompting (more like hitting) me on things I learnt. Furthermore, what blessing it is to have a teacher who's so passionate about the Word. For a Christian to be strong, one has to flex his or her spiritual muscles and go through the right training. That's what RPBC has been for me.

With these studies, I begin to have move more from the NT to OT as I found greater riches in it. But I thank Him for being faithful and merciful as I learnt the standards of God and how far I stand in His scale of who He wants me to be. I may not even come close to fully grasp His awesome Word, but day by day I want to learn more. My prayer would be that for me develop a relationship with my Savior and to learn His lessons/ways faster that I may never take His grace for granted! God be the glory.

Dennis Ng, FGA Kuala Lumpur

I am a regular RPBC student. Recently I attended a biblical course on "Effective Communications" by Dr Tan Soo Inn and found it practical, interesting and beneficial. I have learned to prepare and deliver sermons effectively with the creative methods. This course has helped me know the do's and don'ts of preaching, the importance of knowing your audience and etc.

As a volunteer in the Prison Ministry, I tried preaching with some of these creative ideas and to my surprise the result was quite amazing. Praise God! Although as ministers of God, we need the power of the Holy Spirit, nevertheless we should not discount using good methods and ideas. Moreover, we are told to be diligent in the task God has given to us. One thing I know is that I never regret attending this course. It has helped me be a better equipped and able, effective communicator of the Truth.

Lastly, all Christians! Don't hesitate to attend this Course. A little sacrifice of your time will bring you blessedness. You certainly will be amazed. God Bless!

"Christian Doctrine has given me more confidence in living the faith. It widened and increased my perspective in life. It has also softened my heart and improved my attitude in life."

Maureen Tan - Calvary Church, 2003

"After doing the class I found that instead of me reading the Scriptures, the Scriptures is reading my lifestyle now!"

I thank RPBC and Ms Melinda Yeoh for the Old Testament Survey class in 2004.  Its assignments have made me really read, interpret and apply God's Word!  A solid foundation in Old Testament also had helped me to prepare for the Bible Quiz for my home fellowship at end of 2004.  Praise the Lord!
