Ministering through Adventure Ministry

In many ways the May 1st Sports Carnival is a FGA corporate celebration event before the Lord also (especially with our various language groups, life ministries), where we honor him by loving each other (see the 7 pillars of conduct) and bringing out the best in each other thru sports competition.
However, the celebration does not end with May 1, but more importantly continues after this event when we go back to our respective Home Fellowship Friday meeting. This is an important celebration in a localized HF setting where you invite your guest who participated or who have just attended the FSC08. In this HF celebration, the medals will be handed out to the medal winners in the various competitions in your HF. Certificates of appreciation will be given to those who participated including your guest. Obviously, this will be the highlight of your HF celebration and probably the main reason that your guests have agreed to come.
We believe that this would be an ideal opportunity for our guests to see and observe the unity in our HF’s and the love for each other whereby as Jesus said ‘ by this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another’ which sets Christians apart from the world.
More importantly, this HF celebration is a “time of great joy for all”. A time of unity for brothers and sisters and an ideal opportunity for our guest to observe and share our unity and joy and be attracted to the fragrant aroma of Christ in us.

Introduction to International Sports Coalition (ISC)
Sport is one of the few activities that bring people together no matter where you are on the globe. Color, race, language, religion, age and gender are all forgotten on the sporting field, in the pool or on the court. Many sports organizations, agencies and local churches have long known of the benefit of being involved in sport and serving sports people as a way to build a bridge to connect with their cultures.
In 1985 the International Sports Coalition was formed as a partnering body to help the different spheres of sports interests to interact with each other. By doing this each part benefits from the strengths of the other and in turn is built up.
The main purposes of the ISC are to:
• Model
• Train
• Network and Establish Partnerships
The ISC is an international relational network that is only as strong as the partnerships in the network. The ISC has neither full time staff nor an office. A Facilitation Team provides oversight and is made up of men and women from approximately 20 countries who serve three-year rotating terms.
In 2003 the ISC partners saw the benefit in describing ten different strategies that had emerged out of this sports movement. The International Sports Leadership Training (ISLT) is one of these Strategic Programs. Each Strategic Program has an International Facilitator and a Council. The Council members are from a variety of cultural backgrounds and provide direction.
The ISC Facilitation Team recognized in December 1998, that the initial pioneering phase in sports ministry should be followed by a second phase, which makes use of previously acquired knowledge and further develops sports leadership, ethics, management and sports ministry methods. To this end the International Sports Leadership School (ISLS) was formed in 1999 to train a worldwide-web-of-new-generation leadership in a thirteen-week residential course in South Africa. Now the training opportunities are extended to national and regional levels.
Links to other Strategic Programs
All leaders in training are introduced to the whole spectrum of global sports opportunities. They are exposed to all 10 Strategic Programs of the ISC. They are taught how to integrate these 10 Strategic Programs into a contextually relevant plan. The ISLS and ISLT equip leaders to serve all Strategic Programs in all the SRC mini-regions.
Training Courses
There are three levels of training, which are presented by recognized (accredited) ISLT lecturers or trainers and follow a specific curriculum:
• Level 1: (6-9 days) on a national level
• Level 2: (9-21 days) on a mini-regional level. Trainees are recommended by their national committees for this training
• Level 3: (ISLS, 3 months in South Africa) on an international level. Trainees are recommended by their mini-regional committees for this training
The training provided through an ISLT Level 1 Training Course gives vision and training to potential national leaders in the foundations of sports ministry and introduces participants to the ISC and 10 Strategic Programs.
