Turning Committee Into Community

15 05 2008

Recently I served in the organizing committee of a grand annual sports event held on Labour Day in Matsushita Sports Complex, Shah Alam. We received compliments that the sports event has been held more smoothly and systematically. However, we didn’t expect much less crowd turned up this year compared to last year.committee-300x2271.gifAnyway, I learned something important that, relationship is equally, if not more, important that the results we strive to achieve, be it in business, office or social work. Through working together in the committee, we not only worked together to achieve our organizational goal, but we also developed friendship and relationship.

As I heard from a speaker before, we can know how many seeds there are in an apple. But we do not know how many apples can come out of one seed. Our relationship with others is like the seed. We may do great things together for now. But without a good relationship, we may not be able to do great things together many times. It is no use that we do great things now but our relationship with colleagues deteriorates as a result of working together.

When I was younger, I tended to go for results no matter what, even at the expense of relationship with others. When working for one company, I remember being a busybody to always give suggestions to reform the business process of the company, to the extent of hurting relationship with others especially my boss. As a result, I lost out in office politics and was nearly fired from the job.

Good relationship is vital in our life. Let’s turn a committee into a community. Let’s turn our office into a fellowship of humans who love and care for one another. Of course, oftentimes we need to start from ourselves first.

HF Sports Carnival Post Event Celebration

6 05 2008

Greetings,

 picture832.jpg

In many ways the May 1st Sports Carnival is a FGA corporate celebration event before the Lord also (especially with our various language groups, life ministries), where we honor him by loving each other (see the 7 pillars of conduct) and bringing out the best  in each other thru sports competition.

However, the celebration does not end with May 1, but more importantly continues after this event when we go back to our respective Home Fellowship Friday meeting. This is an important celebration in a localized HF setting where you invite your guest who participated or who have just attended the FSC08. In this HF celebration, the medals will be handed out to the medal winners in the various competitions in your HF. Certificates of appreciation will be given to those who participated including your guest. Obviously, this will be the highlight of your HF celebration and probably the main reason that your guests have agreed to come.

We believe that this would be an ideal opportunity for our guests to see and observe the unity in our HF’s and the love for each other whereby as Jesus said ‘ by this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another’ which sets Christians apart from the world.

More importantly, this HF celebration is a “time of great joy for all”. A time of unity for brothers and sisters and an ideal opportunity for our guest to observe and share our unity and joy and be attracted to the fragrant aroma of Christ in us.

Dear brothers & sisters,

I had a wonderful time at the FGA Family Sport Carnival 2008, May 1, 2008. It is almost nearly to perfection but I still think that it is GOD blessing for us to experiences the amazing time we spend together with our church family members & our sporting visitors. Together we did build a stronger relationship with one another especially those who we love. Thank you Lord Jesus Christ that he has united us for his purpose. AMEN.

Last year FGA Family Sport Carnival was a successful event & it has being one of the most awaiting events for most of us, definitely I will be one of them. Nothing can compare to this year, because this year I get to work together with the most dedicated team members again. Just pray that we can reach out further for those who are unreachable, I pray that more humble servants would to join us with the same vision.

Since the very first time, Brother Victor Chua spoken to me about setting up Sport Fellowship, a team of people who love sports and ready to organize sports some tournament for our FGA family members. I was very pleased & excited to join him as from there he introduces me to Brother Eugene & things just went on until today, I have knew them. I want to say thanks to Chris, Shirley, Carrian, Charles, Phoebie, Joey, Christina, Albert, Anderson, Pearly, Ricky, Weng Hong, David, Eugene, CK Yap, Victor, for them we are united as one family. I get to knew more about sharing & loving one another through sports, get to work with our Sport Fellowship Committees is one of the most blessed things to me since I accepted JESUS CHRIST as my LORD & SAVIOUR.

Nothing is impossible for GOD, he is always there to guide us in our mist. I want to thanks our FGA Church elder for the vision & full support from the Church Family for taking part in this evangelism through sports. Thank you GOD for he has given me a place to serve him in FGA Church, to serve LORD is the happiest things to do in my life. I urge those who have not experience the wonder of serving LORD, please pray for it… Ask & you shall be given a opportunity. Thank you LORD Jesus Christ, AMEN.

A big Congratulations

5 05 2008

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ (Chris, Khoo, Kong KY, Ang Eng Joo, Kevin Ung, Philomena and Rachel)

A big Congratulations to all of you for organising a successful games in your respective charge. Due to your previous experience in staging the games, the whole event went smoothly from the start to the finish.

I must thank each and everyone of you for your contribution of your time and effort to help the Sports exco to manage the FGA family sports carnival yesterday. I must admit it was a job well done and everyone from the elders to the HF leaders and participants were very please to witness, enjoy and participate in this carnival. From the start when you were appointed, I truly believe in all of you that you were capable to stage and manage the game successfully. I was right through out.

God was great and he answers all our prayers on that day too. God not only give us a good weather but he gave us a perfect day. I do not know whether anyone of you noticed that we had less than an hour of sunshine on that day. Although it was a hot day for the participants and the food stalls operators, can you imagine how hot it could have been if the sun was shinning directly at all of us. The good Lord had taken away the rain and the Sun on that day. Praise the Lord.

Many pastors and HF leaders whom I met had conveyed their appreciation and encouragement to all of you for the good effort that you had put up. Every brothers and sisters that I met had given me all positive feed back on the games too.

So do all of you, and on behalf of the Sports Exco and Committee, I would like to say a personal “Thank You” to you and your family for your contribution.

God bless…….
Eugene Wong and the FGA Sports Exco
